In a word. Yes.

But that would be a really short blog post and I don’t think Google would be happy with me! So let’s explore that a little bit further.

At the time of writing, Scotland is the only country in the UK that allows you to get married anywhere. ANYWHERE!

How cool is that?

Types of Ceremony

The Scottish Government Website states that there are 2 different types of marriage ceremony you can have in Scotland: civil ceremony – can take place in a registration office or anywhere agreed with the registrar, except religious premises. religious or belief ceremony – can take place anywhere by someone approved to conduct a ceremony.

And that is why we recommend using a Humanist celebrant for your service. We have worked with dozens of Humanists and between us created some beautiful ceremonies in wonderful locations all around the country.

Where to get married in Scotland?

We have been fortunate to capture elopements and weddings in many different locations… beaches, castles, stately homes, mountain sides, a zoo(!), forests, churches, Cathedrals, town halls, by rivers, next to a waterfall, in the garden of a cottage… the list goes on.

We’ve put together a guide that goes through some of the best places to elope in Scotland which you can go and check out.

Things to think about

Whilst you can get married anywhere it may not always be practical, unless you opt for an elopement. If you are thinking about eloping to Scotland then check out our page or download our guide. And remember, an elopement can have a few guests as well!

If you do opt for Private Land, you will need the landowners permission. Many AirBnB owners will not allow marriages to take place on their property so just double check before booking.

Be clear with your celebrant just how far you are planning to walk to your ceremony to ensure that they are comfortable with that distance.

And that’s that! Thank you so much for reading and best of luck with your wedding in Scotland
