Edinburgh Couples Photography

Edinburgh Couples Photography

Get dressed up. We’ll do the rest.

Ball gowns and black tie, not jeans and jumpers. Two photographers, the whole city, and photos you’ll actually want on the wall.

This isn’t a family photoshoot in matching knitwear

Let’s be clear about what this is. This is you, dressed up properly, being photographed like the main characters you are.

It’s not a family shoot in matching jumpers. It’s not thirty minutes and a car park. It’s a proper occasion. You in the gown, them in the suit, and Edinburgh doing what it does best behind you.

Maybe you’ve just got engaged. Maybe it’s a big anniversary, or a honeymoon, or you’re visiting from the States and you want photos that look like the trip felt. Maybe there’s no reason at all beyond the two of you looking incredible and wanting proof of it. All of those are the right reason.

We photograph couples around Edinburgh year-round, and we treat a session with the same care we’d give a wedding. Because to us, it is one, just without the paperwork.

Nowhere gives you more in a square mile

You can go from the cobbled Old Town, to the Georgian New Town, to a village tucked into a gorge, to a hilltop with the whole city at your feet, and never once get in a car.

The light down a close at golden hour. The Castle looming over everything. Dean Village, which really is as pretty as Instagram makes it look.

Most couples photography happens in a park because it’s easy. Ours happens across a capital city because it’s better. And because we’ve walked every street of it, we know which corner glows at 6pm in October and which “iconic” spot will be three-deep in selfie sticks. You get the first. Never the second.

What we actually do

We plan it, then we shoot it, then we hand you photos that don’t look like anyone else’s.

Before the day, we talk through what you want it to feel like, help you pick locations that suit you rather than whatever’s trending, and give you honest guidance on what to wear and when to be where. On the day, there’s no stiff posing and no barking orders. We’ll put you at ease, tell you roughly where to stand, then tell you to forget we said that and just be together. The best frames always come from the in-between moments.

Every image is hand-edited afterwards. No filler. Quality over quantity, every time.

And because there are two of us on most sessions, one of us is catching the wide, cinematic shot of you against the city while the other is right in close on the look you just gave each other. You can’t get both with one camera. That’s the whole point of us.

Three ways to do it

Everything’s hand-edited, delivered in a private online gallery, and yours to download in full.

The City Session

£550

An hour and a half, just Matt behind the camera, moving around the city centre. The quick, beautiful version, perfect if you want stunning photos without a whole production.

The Edinburgh Affair

£1,750

The full production. Both of us for a half-day, opening with a glass of champagne or a cocktail somewhere beautiful to set the tone. The whole city, an outfit change or two, the light at its best. For couples who want the full experience, start to finish.

Book and pay securely online.

What to wear

Overdress. Always overdress.

We have never once looked at a gallery and thought “they look too good here.” This is your permission slip to wear the thing you never get to wear. The floor-length gown. The proper suit. The heels you’d never actually walk the Royal Mile in. Don’t worry, we carry flats, and we carry you between spots.

If you want a second look, bring it: something grand for the Old Town, something softer for the gardens. We’ll help you plan it before the day so nothing clashes with where we’re standing. The couples who commit to it always love their photos the most.

“The photos look like they came straight out of a movie. The Sassenachs were a dream to work with, fun and total pros. We are so in love with our photos, and everyone can’t stop saying the same thing. We definitely recommend them!”

Our favourite Edinburgh couples locations

The spots we come back to, and why.

Dean Village

A 12th-century milling village in a gorge, minutes from the West End. It’s Instagram-famous now, so we shoot it early or late for the quiet version. Still our favourite corner in the city for couples.

Circus Lane

A cobbled mews in Stockbridge that looks like a painting. Flowers spilling over the walls in summer, lantern-lit and moody in winter.

Victoria Street & the Old Town closes

The curved, colourful street that inspired Diagon Alley, plus the hidden alleyways and courtyards off the Royal Mile that most visitors walk straight past.

Calton Hill

The classic. Castle, monuments and Arthur’s Seat all in one frame, and it’s magic at golden hour.

The Royal Botanic Garden

Seventy acres of green a short walk from the centre, for couples who want colour and calm over cobbles and crowds. It needs a photography permit, which we’ll help you sort.

Holyrood Park & Arthur’s Seat

Wild Highland scenery dropped into the middle of a capital city. For the couples who want drama.

Let’s plan your couples session

Tell us what you’re picturing: the vibe, the outfits, the occasion. Fill in the form, or message us on WhatsApp or email if that’s easier.

Hey, we’re Jodie & Matt

We met in the Office. We are basically Jim and Pam, except we moved to the Scottish Highlands and started photographing elopements. (Sorry, Roy.)

Parents to 3 kids, 2.5 dogs (we can explain) and 1 cat called Poppy. We love The Office, Outlander (obvs), and we are STILL annoyed about the ending of Game of Thrones. Matt is Harry Potter obsessed.

We’ve been doing this for over a decade. Our business cards say photography, but that doesn’t really cover it. We’re also your guides, your hairpin wranglers and your raincoat holders. We carry the snacks. We hold the umbrella. We tell you where to stand and then tell you to forget we said that and just do whatever feels natural.

We take it seriously. We also take the piss a bit. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Good to know

Do we need to be engaged?

Not even slightly. Engaged, married thirty years, together six months, honeymooning: all welcome. If you’re a couple and you want beautiful photos, you’re our people.

How long until we get the photos?

You’ll get a sneak peek quickly, and your full gallery not long after. We’ll give you exact timings when you book.

Can we bring outfit changes?

Yes, on the Golden Hour and the Edinburgh Affair. We’ll help you plan looks to locations so it all flows.

What if it rains?

It’s Edinburgh, so sometimes it will. Some of our best photos were taken in the rain, and we always have covered spots up our sleeve. We bring the umbrellas. You just bring yourselves.

Do you travel outside Edinburgh?

These city sessions are Edinburgh-based. If you want the Highlands, Glencoe or a full elopement, that’s a different (and very fun) conversation. Just ask.

Just one of you shooting?

Only on The City Session, where Matt shoots solo to keep it quick and simple. The Golden Hour and the Edinburgh Affair are both of us, all the way through.

You could stand in a park in your jeans.

Or you could put on the gown, pour the champagne, and let a city built for exactly this be your backdrop.

We know where the light falls. We know the corners nobody else does.

And there are two of us, so nothing gets missed.
