Common questions

Where is the best place to elope in Scotland?

There’s no single best place — it depends on the day you want. Glencoe suits couples who want dramatic mountains with easy access; the wider Highlands suit those after wild seclusion; Edinburgh is perfect for elegant, easy city elopements; and Midhope Castle is ideal for history and Outlander romance. The quiz above matches you based on your priorities.

Do we need to hike to elope in the Highlands?

Not necessarily. Many of Scotland’s most dramatic spots — including much of Glencoe — are right beside the road or a short, gentle stroll away. If you’d love a summit ceremony we can absolutely make that happen, but a beautiful, secluded elopement doesn’t require a big hike.

Can we get married at Lallybroch?

Yes — Midhope Castle, the real-life Lallybroch from Outlander, is a popular elopement setting. See our dedicated Get Married at Lallybroch page for details.

How far in advance should we book our location?

Popular dates — especially summer and autumn — book up well ahead, so we recommend checking availability as early as you can. Once you’ve found your spot, check your date to see if we’re free.

Can you help us choose if we’re still torn?

Absolutely. Tell us what you’re imagining via our contact page and we’ll help you weigh up the options based on your dates, travel plans and the photos you love.

Where to elope in Scotland

Choosing where to elope in Scotland is the best kind of problem to have. From the brooding peaks of Glencoe to the wild emptiness of the far Highlands, the elegance of Edinburgh’s old town and the storybook walls of Midhope Castle, there’s a setting to match every couple and every kind of day. The Location Matcher above is the quickest way to narrow it down — but here’s a closer look at what each part of the country offers.

Glencoe — dramatic mountains, easy access

If your idea of a perfect elopement involves towering ridges, waterfalls and big, cinematic skies, Glencoe is hard to beat. Much of its drama sits right beside the road, so you get jaw-dropping scenery without needing to be a serious hiker — ideal for couples who want impact with minimal effort.

The Scottish Highlands — wild and remote

For true seclusion, the wider Scottish Highlands deliver lochs, glens and beaches you’ll often have entirely to yourselves. This is the choice for adventurous couples happy to travel a little further for somewhere that feels like the edge of the world.

Edinburgh — elegant and effortless

Prefer beauty without the boots? Edinburgh pairs cobbled closes, Georgian streets and castle views with cafés, hotels and an international airport on the doorstep — the easiest, most elegant way to elope in Scotland.

Midhope Castle — history and Outlander romance

Couples drawn to story and heritage love Midhope Castle, the real-life Lallybroch from Outlander. A 16th-century tower house just outside Edinburgh, it offers privacy, atmosphere and timeless romance.
