A Real Elopement
Darian & Jacob
Darian and Jacob came to us with a clear picture: green hills, their closest family around them, and a bagpiper. There was just one detail we gently steered.
Here’s how they first reached out:
“Hello! I am looking to get eloped in the green hills on the Isle with my and my partner’s immediate family. Ideally, I would like help with the photography, celebrant, travel on the Isle, and general location information. We also would like a bagpiper!”
The Isle they meant was Skye. And here’s where being honest matters more than just saying yes to everything. We don’t photograph on Skye anymore, it’s become so busy that the quiet, just-the-two-of-you feeling people go there for has all but gone. So rather than book them into a spot we knew would disappoint, we made the case for Glencoe instead. Same drama, same green hills, far fewer people, and our home turf for over a decade.
They trusted us on it. We’re so glad they did.
Green hills, a piper, and the whole glen to themselves
They got ready in a wee Airbnb in Ballachulish before we headed into the Dalness area of Glencoe, one of those pockets that looks like the whole of the Highlands distilled into one valley. Their celebrant was the brilliant Aly, and we put them in touch with Grant, the Munro Bagpiper, whose pipes carrying across an empty glen is a sound you don’t forget. Immediate family gathered close, exactly as they’d pictured. Just on the mainland instead of the Isle.
After the ceremony we explored. We took the whole group to several different corners of the glen, including filming locations from both Outlander and Harry Potter, the kind of spots that make a Highland day feel like stepping into a story.
“Sometimes the most useful thing we do is talk a couple out of a location, and into the one they’ll actually love.”
This is the part a lot of photographers won’t do. It’s easier to take the booking and let the day fall flat. We’d rather have the honest conversation early, point you somewhere better, and arrange the celebrant, the piper and the route so all you have to do is turn up. Darian and Jacob wanted green hills, family and a bagpiper. They got every bit of it, in a glen they had almost entirely to themselves.
