Hello there! Are you dreaming of an outdoor wedding in Scotland? You’re not alone!

Many couples love the idea of saying “I do” surrounded by the stunning beauty of Scotland’s landscapes. Whether you want a traditional wedding or something a bit more adventurous (we will come back to that later), Scotland has plenty of options for an outdoor celebration.

Let’s explore some fantastic ideas and some of our favourite locations!

Traditional Outdoor Weddings

Scotland is full of beautiful places where you can have a traditional outdoor wedding. Here are a few wonderful venues to consider that we’ve been lucky enough to work at:

Oxenfoord Castle

Oxenfoord Castle Wedding

Imagine getting married in the gardens of a majestic castle! Oxenfoord Castle, located near Edinburgh, offers a stunning backdrop for an outdoor wedding.

The lush gardens set against the grand castle make it the perfect spot for a romantic ceremony with the added bonus of having the Castle available for your reception afterwards

Friars Carse

Located near to Dumfries in the South West of the country, Friars Carse is a charming country house with picturesque grounds.

The River Nith flows straight past the gardens and makes the perfect backdrop. There is also the option to get married amongst the trees that sit on the edge of the grounds if a woodland vibe is your thing. It’s a lovely choice for a traditional outdoor wedding in Scotland.

Yair Estate

Nestled in the Scottish Borders, Yair Estate provides the most beautiful setting for outdoor weddings. The estate’s sprawling lawns and scenic views create a magical atmosphere for your big day. Take advantage of the marquee set amongst the wildflower for a truly awesome setting.

Why Couples Love Outdoor Weddings

Many couples choose an outdoor wedding in Scotland because of the scenery. But that’s not the only reason Here are a few reasons why outdoor weddings are so popular:

  • Natural Beauty: Scotland’s landscapes are incredibly diverse, from rolling hills and serene lochs to rugged coastlines and ancient forests. The natural beauty adds a unique charm to your wedding photos.
  • Fresh Air: Being outdoors gives you and your guests a chance to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings.
  • Flexibility: Outdoor weddings offer flexibility in terms of space and decor. You can create a wedding that reflects your personal style, whether it’s rustic, elegant, or whimsical.

The Ultimate Outdoor Wedding: An Elopement in the Scottish Highlands

For the ultimate outdoor wedding in Scotland, why not consider an elopement in the Scottish Highlands? Elopements are perfect for couples who want an intimate, adventurous, and unforgettable experience. Here are three stunning places to consider for your elopement:

Glencoe

Glencoe is one of Scotland’s most iconic and dramatic landscapes. Imagine exchanging vows amidst towering mountains and lush valleys. The scenery is breathtaking, and it offers endless opportunities for beautiful photos. Oh… and if you are looking for an elopement photographer in Glencoe, then hi!

Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye is a magical place with rugged coastlines, mystical fairy pools, and unique landslip-landscapes. It’s a perfect spot for couples who want a touch of adventure and a lot of natural beauty in their elopement. Our advice – avoid the summer period when the island gets very busy. We’ve written a whole guide about eloping to the Isle of Skye.

Camusdarach Beach

If you love the idea of a beach wedding, Camusdarach Beach near Mallaig is an excellent choice. This beautiful beach boasts white sands and clear blue waters. The sound of the water gently lapping the beach and the stunning views over to Rum, Eigg and Skye make it just the most perfect spot.

Elopements with Guests

While elopements are usually more intimate, you can still have a few guests join you. Typically, elopements in the Scottish Highlands can include up to about 20 guests (we have done one mountainside elopement with about 30 guests). This way, you can share your special day with your closest friends and family without the stress of a big wedding.

Plus, your elopement photographer can help you find the perfect spots and capture all those magical moments. Just a quick note on elopement photographers – most work a little differently from traditioanl wedding photographers and act as a kind of semi-elopement planner. Alternatively, why not check out The Elopement Company who provide an all-inclusive elopement service and take care of EVERYTHING.

Why Choose an Elopement?

Elopements offer a unique and personal way to celebrate your love. Here are a few reasons why an elopement in the Scottish Highlands might be perfect for you:

  • Intimacy: With fewer, or no, guests, you can focus on each other and the special moments you share.
  • Adventure: The Highlands offer a sense of adventure and excitement. You can explore stunning landscapes and create unforgettable memories.
  • Less Stress: Without the pressure of a big wedding, you can enjoy your day more and focus on what truly matters – your love for each other.

Ready to Plan Your Outdoor Wedding in Scotland?

Whether you choose a traditional outdoor wedding or an adventurous elopement in the Scottish Highlands, Scotland offers endless possibilities for a beautiful and memorable celebration. Remember, it’s not just about the location but the love and joy you share on your special day.
