In this guide, we’ll break down the best (and not-so-best) times to elope in Glencoe, so you can choose the perfect season for your adventure. Ready? Let’s dive in.
Winter Elopements: December to February
Winter in Glencoe is pure, unfiltered drama. Snow-dusted peaks, frosty mornings, and a sun that barely rises above the horizon make for a magical, almost otherworldly atmosphere. The crowds are gone, and you’ll likely have the place to yourself—just you, your partner, and the occasional wandering stag.
It’s cold, of course, but with the right layers, you’ll be ready to embrace the adventure. Snowy landscapes paired with that golden winter light are a photographer’s dream. If you’re up for some chillier conditions, winter elopements deliver unforgettable moments.
Spring (Sort Of): March to April
We’re not going to sugarcoat it – March isn’t always Glencoe’s finest hour. The snow has melted, leaving the mountains looking a bit bare, and the lush greenery hasn’t quite arrived.
The famous Glencoe drama is the only thing that can save it – but if you get a sunny day? It can feel a little bit barren. April is a slight improvement, but with Easter tourists and unpredictable weather, it’s may require a little bit more planning and flexibility
If spring is your season of choice, you’re better off waiting until May for that lush green carpet to roll in.
The Green Season: May to June
Late May to June is when Glencoe really comes alive. The hills turn a vibrant green, the wildflowers begin to bloom, and the infamous midges haven’t fully woken up yet. This is the time to soak in the beauty of Scotland’s landscapes at their lushest.
Be aware, though, that May and June can attract visitors looking to enjoy the warmer weather. Early mornings or weekdays are your best bet for a quieter experience. If you’re after greenery and don’t mind sharing the view with a few hikers, this is your golden window.
Summer: July to Early September
Ah, summer. While the greenery remains stunning, the crowds arrive in full force. Think packed car parks, selfie sticks, and the hum of campervans echoing through the glen.
It’s not exactly the secluded vibe most couples dream of for their elopement.
If summer is your only option, consider an early morning or late evening ceremony to avoid the tourist rush. But if you can wait, trust us – Glencoe is far more magical once the crowds have gone home.
Oh and midges. Midges suck. Maybe not literally. I think they bite if we are talking literally. But they are out in force in the summer and should really be avoided if possible.
Autumn Gold: Late September to November
Autumn in Glencoe is absolutely breathtaking.
The hills transform into a patchwork of amber, gold, and rust, creating one of the most stunning landscapes you’ll ever see. Late September and October are particularly popular, and for good reason – this is Glencoe at its finest.
November is an underrated gem. In fact (can you keep a secret?) We think November is the best month to elope in Glencoe.
The autumn colours usually linger, the air is crisp, and the first frosts begin to appear. You may even get snowy tops. (I am writing this in November whilst there is snowy tops) It’s quieter than October, making it a great choice for couples looking to escape the hustle and bustle. Oh, and as an added bonus, accommodation costs are starting to fall. Yay!
To sum it up
Each season in Glencoe offers its own unique charm, but the best time to elope really depends on what you’re looking for.
Winter is perfect for adventurous couples seeking dramatic, snow-capped peaks.
Spring is a gamble, but May and June deliver lush green beauty.
Autumn? Absolutely unbeatable.
And summer… well, let’s just say it’s not our favourite. BUT…. we do have some suggestions that may just work (contact us to hear them)
