by The Sassenachs

Scotland is a beautiful country that offers a range of stunning locations for an elopement. From rolling hills and rugged coastlines to historic castles and charming villages, Scotland has something to offer for every couple. Here are 20 possible elopement locations in Scotland that you might consider: Please note that some of these places will require special permission for marriage. Please check ahead!

1. Edinburgh Castle:

For a truly regal elopement experience, consider tying the knot at Edinburgh Castle. This iconic landmark offers breathtaking views of the city and is a great location for couples who want a historic and romantic setting. Why not opt for St Margarets Chapel – the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh? Want to see what a Scottish Castle Wedding looks like? Click the link!

2. The Isle of Skye:

The Isle of Skye is known for its rugged beauty and is a popular location for elopements. From the stunning Quiraing to the iconic Old Man of Storr, there are plenty of breathtaking spots to exchange your vows. Thinking about going for the Old Man of Storr? Do a practice run first – it is quite a hike, particularly in a wedding dress!

3. The Cairngorms National Park:

For a wild and adventurous elopement, consider tying the knot in the Cairngorms National Park. This stunning wilderness offers a range of outdoor experiences, from hiking to fishing, and is a great location for couples who love the great outdoors. A particular favourite of ours is Glenshee – home to some of the best winter skiing that Scotland has to offer. Looking for a Highlands Elopement Photographer.

Stirling Castle is another opulent and stunning elopement location that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. This historic castle is a great location for couples who want a traditional and romantic setting. A personal favourite of ours is the Great Hall – 40 meters long with amazing vaulted ceilings – just imagine the history that these walls have seen! Not enough castle ideas? The Outer Hebrides is a remote and rugged group of islands that offer a range of stunning elopement locations. From the white sand beaches of Harris to the rolling hills of North Uist, this area is perfect for couples who want a wild and remote elopement experience. Bare in mind that travel to the Outer Hebrides can take a little bit more planning and a little bit of extra time for contingency may be needed!

10. The Wallace Monument:

For a unique and historic elopement experience, consider the Wallace Monument. This iconic landmark offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside and is a great location for couples who want a completely non-traditional and romantic setting. There are well over 200 steps to climb so work on your fitness before making this your choice!

The Borders is a charming area of rolling hills and lush greenery that offers a range of elopement locations. From the historic market town of Melrose to the high cliffs and white sand coastline of Berwickshire, this area is perfect for couples who want a serene and intimate elopement experience. Much like the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway is a beautiful location that is ofter overlooked when travelling to Scotland. Rolling hills and beautiful coastline make up much of the charm of this area of Scotland but don’t forget the history too!
