Slains castle elopement

by The Sassenachs

Aimee and Danny, a couple from Philadelphia, decided to have a unique and intimate wedding celebration.
They chose to elope at Slains Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, a beautiful and historic venue with stunning views.

After getting ready at the Hilton Hotel in Ballater Aimee and Danny opted to have a beautiful “first look” in the woods. The early winter light illuminated the forest and the last of the autumn colours glowed beautifully providing the perfect backdrop for this romantic moment.

Once we had completed the first look we took a drive up the Aberdeenshire coast towards Peterhead and the amazing Slains Castle (more about the castle at the bottom of the post)

The ceremony was attended by a dozen or so family members and the service conducted by the always awesome Andrew Scott (need a celebrant? Check this guy out!) After their emotional full ceremony with their own vows and the traditional Scottish Quaich we spent a couple of hours exploring the castle ruins and the cliffs for some pretty epic images which you can see below…

Don’t forget to read more about Slains Castle at the bottom of the page.

Oh… and those flowers? They were by the amazing Hollie Berries Flowers in Aberdeen.

Slains Castle: A Majestic and Romantic Destination for Scottish Elopements

As elopement photographers based in the Scottish Highlands, we have had the privilege of capturing countless beautiful and unique elopements in some of the country’s most stunning locations.

But there is one location in particular that stands out to me as the epitome of gothic romance: Slains Castle in Aberdeenshire.

Located just a 3 hour drive from the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow, Slains Castle offers a peaceful yet wild escape for couples looking to tie the knot in Scotland. With its rich history, breathtaking setting, and links to the famous novel “Dracula,” Slains Castle is the perfect location for an unforgettable Scottish elopement.

The History of Slains Castle

Slains Castle has a rich and storied history that dates back to the 16th century. Over the centuries, the castle has undergone numerous renovations and expansions, but it still retains its original charm and allure. The castle has played host to numerous important historical figures and has been the site of many significant events throughout the years.

Links to Dracula

Slains Castle is not just historically significant, it is also famous for its links to the classic novel “Dracula.” Bram Stoker, the author of the novel, visited Slains Castle in 1895 and was reportedly inspired by the castle’s gothic architecture and dramatic cliff-top setting. Today, Slains Castle remains a popular destination for fans of the novel and is often referred to as the “real-life Dracula Castle.”

The Setting of Slains Castle

The setting of Slains Castle is simply breathtaking. Perched on a cliff top overlooking the North Sea, the castle provides panoramic views of the rugged coastline and the rolling hills beyond. But it is the coastline that makes this spot so impressive. There are quite a few outcrops that you can stand on with the waves crashing below you the photos can be truly epic. The castle is surrounded by lush greenery and wildflowers, making it the perfect location for an intimate and romantic elopement.

Why Slains Castle is the Ideal Location for an Elopement
