As a professional wedding and elopement photographer, one of the most exciting parts of my job is capturing the beautiful and emotional moments between couples on their special day. One such moment that has become increasingly popular, especially in the US is the “first look.”

A “first look” is a special moment between the bride and groom where they see each other for the first time on their wedding day, usually before the ceremony. The bride and groom are typically alone or with just their photographer, creating an intimate moment for the couple to connect and experience a range of emotions

There are several reasons why clients choose to do a first look. Firstly, it can help calm nerves and relieve some of the anxiety that comes with walking down the aisle in front of all their guests. Secondly, a first look allows for more time for photos to be taken, both of the couple and with their bridal party, which can save time later on in the day. Additionally, couples who choose to do a first look get to spend more time together on their wedding day, creating a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere.

Not only does it provide a chance to capture authentic emotions and reactions, but it also allows us to capture intimate moments between the couple without the distractions of guests or the pressure of a ticking clock

For those getting ready in a nice hotel, the hotel lobby or staircase can also make for a dramatic setting.

Alternatively, a couple’s home or a location that holds special meaning to you can provide a more personal touch.
