Scotland Elopement Wedding Ideas

January 8, 2025

OK, it is probably fair to say we are biased BUT we think that eloping is the single best way to get married.

And before you shout us down… we didn’t actually elope ourselves.

Which is why we know.

Every year, we work with dozens of couples from all around the world. Some of our couples know exactly what they want. But most just have a vague outline of the sort of thing they may want and it usually boils down to “getting married somewhere pretty”

But your elopement to Scotland is about way more than that. It is about the adventure. The story.

It starts when you first contact us and continues right through and beyond receiving your images.

But you may be wondering how you can make your elopement even more special. Well we’ve been elopement photographers in Scotland for a long time and we have probably seen it all.

So we are gonna go through a few things that you can do to make your elopement even more special.

Elope somewhere with meaning

Most people want those jaw-dropping photos. It goes without saying. But for many of our clients, they set great store in choosing a location for them that has meaning.

For some it could be the place their ancestors lived or the spot they got engaged. For others it will be the setting or filming location of their favourite story or book.

Whatever the reason, choosing a spot with added meaning will keep the photos timeless

Include Traditions

Many couples choose to elope to Scotland because they don’t want a traditional wedding.

But that doesn’t mean they don’t like traditions. It could be that they don’t like the traditions of a “traditional” wedding – think cutting the cake or a first dance.

Why not choose to include some ancient traditions for your Scottish elopement? Drinking from a quaich, having a handfasting or using an oathing stone are lovely traditions that you could include within your elopement wedding ceremony.

Include Family and Friends

Even if you don’t invite family and friends (our favourite elopements are always those without guests) that doesn’t mean that you can’t include them within your wedding.

Ask them to write a letter for you to read the morning of your wedding or perhaps record a video that you can both watch together before getting ready. Some celebrants will also be able to weave in stories of the two of you that are told by your friends.

Lots of couples have a mini reception a few weeks after their elopement. Perhaps set up a screen with a slideshow of your elopement photos or video.

Make your wedding yours

There are no rules with elopements.

One thing that is really popular these days is to have multi-day elopement adventures. We have worked with couples who have opted for 2 and sometimes 3 day elopements. The most common combination of this is for the couple to have their ceremony in the mountains of Glencoe or similar and then having a second day in Edinburgh.

Other couples choose to just do different things on their elopement day. Perhaps have a picnic, go paddleboarding, walk the dog… whatever you choose. Make it yours.

No idea where to start?
